Finding your first job is stressful for almost everyone. Many employers emphasise in their advertisements that work experience is required, so at first it may seem that there is no chance of being hired. Before you start the whole search process, it is worth finding out how to write a CV so that you know what to include and how to build one so that the recruiter takes notice.
First job search
How do you gain experience when most job ads already require it? You may think that the first job search is a vicious cycle. We don’t get the job because we have no experience and at the same time we can’t get it because we need it. No wonder you can get discouraged. In this case, well-written application documents can make all the difference.
However, it is not only newcomers to the job market who might catch themselves thinking: I need someone to write my resume, which will be interesting. It may be that you have got your first job after an internship or volunteering, and no one has ever asked you for this document before. So when you decide to look for another job, you don’t always know how to do it.
The search will probably be stressful, but we can reduce it by, for example, preparing comprehensive application documents.
How do I write a CV?
How do I write a simple CV? What information should I include? What should I pay special attention to? We’ll give you a hint!
Personal information
A recruiter doesn’t need as much personal information about you as you might think. The most important is your name and contact details – telephone number and email address. You should also give your address.
Details like date and place of birth or marital status are, of course, optional.
Professional designation
Beneath our personal data, it is also worth describing our professional designation. In a few short sentences, state what we are trying to achieve professionally and what we are doing in that direction. This short text can be very helpful if you have little or no professional experience.
Photo
A photo on your CV is not a requirement, but if you do decide to include one, it should be a business photo. You don’t have to visit a photographer for this, but bear in mind that you should be neatly dressed, the background shouldn’t be overwhelming, it’s worth betting on a smile and avoiding hand-held photos.
Targeting your audience
If you’re wondering how to write a CV, it’s worth considering that it should be tailored to the recipient. What does this mean? Let’s read the ad carefully and try to build the document on that basis.
The temptation to put together a single CV and send it out everywhere is certainly great, but an individualised CV immediately shows your commitment to your job search and shows that you care about the position.
Education
Is education required on your resume? If you have a lot of experience – not necessarily. However, if you are just starting out, or if you are applying for a job closely related to your education, it is definitely worth including it. Remember, don’t write too much here – the last stage of your education will suffice.
Experience
If you’re not applying for your first job, and you already have experience, it’s best to place it just below your career goal.
Let’s state the exact date of employment and its completion, position, company, your most important responsibilities and achievements.
Training courses
It’s also worth mentioning the courses and training we have taken that might be useful for the position. That way, the recruiter can immediately verify the confirmation of our skills.
